What is Natural Fertility & how can it help you?

There is a lot of confusion about Natural Fertility Awareness and how it can reliably help women to track their fertility so they can successfully avoid or optimise their chances of conceiving naturally.

And part of the confusion stems from the history of naturally fertility; the rhythm method and counting days on a calendar.

Personally, I remember as I started my first period many years ago my mother handed me a small diary. I was told to always record the first and last day of my periods. Confused at age the age of 12 years old, I enquired why? Only be told ‘you will understand when you are older’...  Believe me, things have moved on!

So what is Natural Fertility awareness?

Correctly used Natural Fertility Awareness can help you understand and know your body and your cycle. This gives you the ability to understand your fertility and how that impacts on your well being. We are influenced from an early age to see our fertility as an inconvenience to be controlled.

By embracing your fertility and knowing your own cycle you can work in harmony to become pregnant or delay pregnancy naturally. No need for hormone-based medication or invasive implants, no side effects like weight gain, acne or mood swings - just you, managing your fertility in a natural way.

How does Natural Fertility work?

The whole process has developed into a scientifically backed system rather than the old counting your days in a diary. The history is quite fascinating and I will write more on that in the future.

There are various methods of learning your body cycle.

Marquette Method: This uses urine fertility biomarkers along with cervical mucus observations and if wished recording of temperature.

Billings & Creighton Method: are mucus only methods.

There are also other methods but I will be teaching you the sympto-thermal method.

What is the Sympto-Thermal Method?

The sympto-thermal method uses three methods of recording to build an accurate picture of your cycle.

  • Your Basal Body Temperature

  • Your cervical secretions

  • Position of your cervix.

You don’t have to use all three but I would strongly recommend using at least two.

I will help you to record data, note other factors that can impact your cycle, and to interpret the information to predict your fertile window.

You may be saying I have a phone app to do this, but I would recommend that you also have this knowledge for your own interpretation. Apps depend on every single woman fitting into the same algorithm and they don’t take into account that your cycle can change for many reasons such as stress or sickness.

Take control of knowing your own cycle.

How can Natural Fertility work for you?

Getting to know your cycle takes some work and dedication. But by working with a practitioner like me, you can discover your cycle and I can help you understand how to interpret the signs so that you can know when you are about to ovulate and you can accurately determine your ‘Fertile Window’.

Together we will get to understand your fertility hormones and how they make you feel. We can also look at period management to help you with any difficulties you have. And of course, as a qualified nurse and advanced natural fertility practitioner, you can be confident that I will highlight any need to see your doctor and take medical advice for concerning symptoms.

Natural Fertility Awareness gives you the power to explore and understand how your fertility is unique to you and it is always advisable to learn with a qualified practitioner.

I qualified in 2013 with Fertility UK and find this whole area of health fascinating and empowering for women.
